GEMinar 2: Connections That Matter with Magna (2021-22)

Thank you to Magna for sponsoring GEMinar 2: Connections that Matter!

We started the session with an inspiring keynote address by Joanne Horibe, the VP Ethics and Chief Compliance Officer at Magna International Inc. Joanne spoke about her life experiences, including her career journey. She encouraged the GEM girls to proceed to an area they are passionate about and explore opportunities to be leaders. She concluded with advice such as celebrating delicious ambiguity, progress over perfection, just keep swimming and being authentic.

Afterwards, participants joined Breakout Rooms for the My Connections Activity to reflect on their close connections, champions, acquaintances, and potential connections to help with their networking strategy and goals.

Then in the Art of Networking Panel, Magna panellists Areta, Dila, and Stacey gave advice about networking through their industry experience. The insights and recommendations from the panellists boosted the confidence of the mentees!

During the second Breakout Room, mentees and mentors completed a Personal Pitch Activity where they practiced composing their personal pitches from a case study.

Thank you to Magna and the volunteers for joining GEMinar 2 and providing your insights and advice to the girls!
