GEMinar 5: Owning Your Future with RBC

This past weekend, we hosted our final GEMinar of the 2021-22 Cohort!

We started the event with an opening address from the Hon. Marci Ien, Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre and Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth. Minister Ien shared her experiences growing up in Scarborough, her career in journalism, and her decision to enter politics!

We then had a keynote address from Bhanvi Sachdeva, RBC Future Launch Leader, 2021 Most Powerful Women of Canada, 2022 Alberta’s Top 30 Under 30, and Calgary’s Immigrant of Distinction. Bhanvi discussed the constant battle between motivation and perseverance, and her work as Founder and President of the Articulate Initiative.

After a short breakout room session, we hosted the Owning Your Future Panel with Jennifer Hawkrigg, OLY, Sasha Braganza, and Shahina Khan from RBC. These distinguished panelists discussed their experiences with motivation and perseverance, and how to overcome imposter syndrome.

We ended this celebratory event with the announcement of our 2021-22 GEM Scholarship Recipients and final reflections from our Mentees. Thank you to RBC for your generous sponsorship of this inspiring event!
