ANNOUNCEMENT: The Slaight Family Foundation Women and Girls Initiative

Thank you to the Slaight Family Foundation! 

GEM is pleased to announce that we are one of 12 women’s organizations selected by The Slaight Family Foundation as part of their $15-million-dollar initiative for Women and Girls across Toronto and Canada.

This initiative will have a tremendous impact in addressing some of the greatest challenges faced by women and girls in Canada. The funding will help create programs to reduce gender-based violence, support those in emergency situations and increase opportunities for education and jobs for women and girls. 

“The pandemic has added to the many challenges faced by women and girls across Canada, and particularly in Indigenous, racialized and refugee communities,” said Gary Slaight, the President & CEO of The Slaight Family Foundation. “This initiative is about helping people escape difficult circumstances, providing support for mental and physical health, and overcoming barriers so that women and girls across Canada can live their lives unburdened by unfair, unhealthy or unsafe circumstances.” 

GEM will receive a total of $500,000 over the course of the next four years to expand our programming and admit more girls into the mentorship program.
