GEM respects and considers the protection of your privacy paramount. We are committed to protecting your privacy whether you are browsing for information, registering for program participation, or making a donation online through our website. The handling of all personal information by GEM is governed by the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ON) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada).

This privacy policy outlines the principles and guidelines GEM will follow in the collection, use, disclosure, storage and security of personal information collected from all sources. This may include but is not limited to information collected from our website, applications, consultations, and correspondence, as well as in the management of GEM, its employees, volunteers, members, directors, and resources. The application of this privacy policy is subject to the requirements and provisions of applicable federal and provincial privacy legislation and any other applicable legislation or regulations.

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you as an individual, including your name, address, email, telephone number, credit card details, phone number, age, personal history and any other personally identifiable information you choose to provide GEM.

GEM collects, uses and discloses personal information only with the consent of the individual, or as otherwise allowed by law. Generally, GEM will advise individuals of the purpose of any personal information being collected either before or at the time of collection, which typically occurs when a person:
- registers to participate in our programs;
- registers to attend GEM activities or events;

- makes a donation.
GEM will use this information needed to fulfill your request, respond to your inquiries, and ensure that you are kept up-to-date about our activities.
Personal information will not be used or disclosed for any new purpose without first identifying the new purpose and providing notice to or obtaining the consent of the individual, as applicable, unless permitted by law.

Cookies/Tracking Technology
Our website uses cookies. Cookies are generally used to make it more convenient for users to move around our websites. If you choose, they may be used to ârememberâ your password and make it easier and faster to log-in to certain sites. These types of cookies are stored on your computerâs hard drive. Personal information cannot be collected via cookies and other tracking technologies, however, if you previously provided personally identifiable information, cookies may be tied to such information.
Donorâs Bill of Rightsâ¨
GEM respects the rights of our donors as outlined in the Donor Bill of Rights. The Donor Bill of Rights also includes the Principles of the E Donor Bill of Rights stipulating your rights as an online donor. For all online financial transactions involving donations, our system uses up-to-date security protocols through Blackbaud guaranteeing the utmost security and confidentiality of the handling of your personal information.
All access to participant information, and donor financial information is strictly limited to professional staff who process that data. We offer donors the option to make their donation online through Blackbaudâs Merchant Services processing which independently maintains the highest level of security. GEM does not store, nor do we have access to, your credit card information, financial institution account numbers, or other data relating to yourfinances submitted through Blackbaud Merchant Services.
How we use your Informationâ¨
GEM will not publish, sell, trade, rent or share your contact information without your explicit consent. We will use your contact information (e-mail, telephone number and address) for these following specific purposes only:
- Communications with program participants;
- Distributing receipts for donations;
- Requesting updated contact or giving information;
- Thanking donors for their gifts;
- Informing donors about upcoming campaigns and activities;
- Internal analysis and record keeping;
- Reporting to relevant government agencies (not for public inspection); and
- Sharing changes to this policy.
Unless a donor or a participant explicitly chooses to remain anonymous, we will publicly recognize their donation or participation. In all other cases GEM will assume all participants and donations can be publicly acknowledged.
Comments given in forms may be used in promotional materials while comments sent to us via email, fax or telephone are kept confidential, unless permission is otherwise provided.
Distribution of Informationâ¨
Your information is never provided to any outside parties for any purposes. GEM does not share, sell, license or rent your personal information to any third parties. We are obligated to share information with governmental agencies in fraud prevention or investigation. We may do so when:
