GEM believes that the solution to the problems our female youth face today can be addressed in part by the girls themselves. We see a need for more opportunities for female youth to be heard in our community.
In response, we launched our first all girls summit on April 16th, 2016 called the Influencers of Tomorrow. This event brought 150 girls from all over the GTA to solve the most important issues facing Toronto girls today, and to discuss how can we make our city more inclusive.
The Summit team was lead by 10 girls from GEM and The Bishop Strachan School (BSS) and 10 mentors from GEM, BSS, Civic Action, The Junior League, and MaRS. Together with the Design Thinking team from MaRS, these 10 young women created a day where they harnessed the diverse perspectives of girls from all over Toronto. Now they will go out and make a change in their communities that will make Toronto a better place.
